On Your Mark, Get Set, GO!

ART Golf Academy

The holidays are over and all the golfers in the world turn their attention to the start of the PGA Tour season. First stop, the Mercedes Championship. Since before the holidays, most of the tour players have been working on their games and their bodies to make changes they couldn’t during the year by visiting their swing instructors, personal trainers and their ART providers. But the average golfer doesn’t start thinking about his or her game or body until the snow melts. If you really want to improve your game, now is the time to start.

First, you need to make an honest assessment of your game and fitness level. Ever since Tiger burst onto the scene, fitness has been a goal for most golfers. He proved that stamina, flexibility and strength do play an important role in today’s game. (Courses are not getting shorter, they are getting longer.)

Second, find a facility that not only provides great golf instruction by a PGA Professional but also offers a TPI Certified Personal trainer. Why a personal trainer? Personal trainers are experts in performance enhancement; they work on the muscles that make the golf swing work. Last but not least, you need to find an ART Provider. Why ART? For the last dozen years or so, ART (Active Release Techniques) has been the gold standard in soft tissue treatments. Every professional sports team, Olympic athlete, professional golfer and tennis player has an ART Provider in his or her camp. For a doctor to become an ART provider, he has to be certified by Dr. Mike Leahy.

Dr. Mike Leahy is an expert in the Biomechanics of the human body; he is the founder and developer of ART and Champion Health. Not only is he a single digit handicap on the golf course but he is also an ironman competitor. Dr. Leahy is currently working with the Denver Broncos and several dozen of the PGA Tour Players. Golf is a very challenging sport that requires complex, coordinated movements of the hands, wrists, arms, trunk, and legs. One minimal mistake in a player's swing can prove to be disastrous. Flexibility, speed, balance, and power all have a direct impact on the effectiveness of the golfer's swing. ART helps develop a better golf swing by helping the different parts of the body work as a unit.

Most golfers lack something in their game whether it is distance, consistency or touch. As an instructor, we tell our students to shift their weight, turn their shoulders, rotate their hips or cock their wrists. But what we need to realize is that most people cannot because of physical limitations. Whether it is just simple stiffness or because of an injury, most golfers have a difficult time doing those seemingly simple tasks.

The ART Golf Academy incorporates all three of these areas in our programs and is the premier golf academy on the Front Range. We provide our students with the most comprehensive golf instruction anywhere. Using our state of the art indoor facility, we can determine your individual strengths and weaknesses. Through detailed video software observation, trackman swing analysis and our Biomechanical analysis, we can design a program that includes swing mechanics, fitness training and ART if needed.
