Chip - N - Run

$100 million for 5 years and all Tiger has to do is play the NIKE ball and slap a "swoosh" on everything else? Tiger is not only the greatest golfer of all time, he is also the greatest salesman! Now if he was playing NIKE clubs (which don't exist), it would make a little more sense, but he plays Titleist clubs...and they pay him too. It's all so confusing it makes my head hurt. I hope all the money doesn't screw up Tiger's game or persona, to the point of depriving us of the opportunity to watch him accomplish what he is capable of..........Ernie Els' new lucky number is 2. He has finished 2nd to Tiger Woods in six tournaments and is the first player to finish 2nd in three consecutive majors. He is also now ranked #2 in the world, displacing David Duval, and behind "you know who"...........It just ain't fair! Karrie Webb has won 6 tournaments so far this year, including two of the three current LPGA majors. She also has a chance of becoming the first woman player with $2 million in winnings, and yet she has received little of the recognition she deserves from the PGA, the USGA or the national media. I know, I know, Tiger is setting all kinds of new records, but so is Karrie Webb. It just ain't fair!.........After this years International, I took exception to Charles Howell III, David Gossett, and Adam Scott turning pro with the plan of winning enough money on the PGA Tour through exemptions to place in the top 125, and avoid Q-School. Based on their performance at the International, I felt they had made a bad decision. However, Howell has made about $200k so far, with several tournaments to go. His performance to date has been impressive and I believe he has a good chance of making the cut, and he certainly belongs on the tour..........With some of the new "non-conforming" drivers hitting the U.S. market, it is important to know that they will primarily benefit players that are already long hitters. If you're driver swing speed is less than 105, you will see little benefit. However, th##ere will be some that think it is worth $600 to $800 to flaunt it at the local club..........When Tiger Woods was awarded the PGA Player Of The Year Award in August, it was because mathematically no one could win enough points to beat him, even if he quit for the year and his closest competition won everything left. Based on points for wins and finishes, plus bonus's for majors, Tiger left everyone far behind. He had about 400 points with the closest competition (I believe it was Mickelson) at about 140. If it was a horse race, the winner would have lapped the field about three times..........So what's the fuss about Tiger Woods playing a ball that's a little different than those sold over the counter? Does someone really think it could make a difference in their game? Gimmie a break!

The following are excerpts from my review of one of the funniest books on golf that I have read, "Golf's Most Outrageous Quotes," by Bruce Nash and Allan Zullo, with Bill Hartigan.

"I don't enjoy playing video golf because there is nothing to throw."

&emdash; Paul Azinger

"I know I'm getting better at golf because I'm hitting fewer spectators."

&emdash; Gerald R. Ford, Former President of the U.S.
