Westminster Unveils New Golf Course...
The Heritage at Westmoor

Building a public golf course to standards commonly seen at private clubs is a reputation Westminster earned when Legacy Ridge Golf Course opened in 1994. Recently another championship golf course opened in the City, The Heritage at Westmoor.

Located at 10555 Westmoor Drive (west of Wadsworth Boulevard and north of 108th Avenue), near Jefferson County Airport, The Heritage at Westmoor will hold a grand opening celebration on September 9, 5-7:30 p.m. The public is invited for refreshments, prizes, entertainment and free driving range use. Opening weekend (September 10-12) tee-times can be reserved at the public event. Phone reservations will be accepted beginning on September 10 at 303-469-2974.

The Heritage at Westmoor, an 18-hole public course, was built on 205 acres and offers: five levels of tees ranging from 7,400 yards (back tees) and 5,187 yards (front tees), a 13,000-square-foot clubhouse with a full-service restaurant, a 13-acre grass driving range, 96 sand traps, rental carts, rental clubs, continuous cart path and practice putting/chipping greens with bunkers.

The course is open all year long. The $9.5 million course was designed by Michael Hurdzan from Hurdzan-Fry Architects of Columbus, Ohio. Hurdzan was named 1997 Golf Course Architect of the year by Golf World Magazine.

Jefferson County residents are eligible for resident rates because the JEFFCO Open Space gave the City a $3.3 million no-interest loan to help build the new golf course. JEFFCO also helped negotiate a 120-acre lease with the JEFFCO Airport to build the back nine holes of the course.

The 85 acres of land for the challenging front nine was donated by Westfield Development Company. Westfield developed the recently-completed Westmoor Office Park near The Heritage.

The course also was developed with the environment in mind. Chemicals are being stored and used safely, wetlands are protected, and the facility is wisely using drainage and watering practices qualifying The Heritage for certification from the Audobon Signature Program for environmentally friendly golf courses.

Last fall, construction crews discovered bones from a triceratops, a dinosaur that resembles a rhinoceros. It's believed that triceratops roamed this area approximately 63 million years ago. This discovery led to the adoption of the triceratops logo for the golf course.
