In
each issue GOLFViews will
interview some of the people who
make those long rounds in the sun
more bearable, the Beverage Cart
Driver. We see them every time we
play so we thought it would be
fun to get a glimpse at the game
from their
perspective.

How
long have you been driving the
beverage cart?
2 1/2 years
What
attracted you to this job and how
did you get it?
I had just been laid off from a
dot com (typical), so to drown my
sorrows I went golfing. While I
was there, I asked if they were
hiring. I started 2 days later as
a waitress in the bar. I climbed
the ladder and finally got to do
the cart 1 1/2 years later. I'm
attracted to the job because it's
great for my golf game, I get to
be outside, and I love being with
people. It's the job I want to
retire from, and retire
to.
Do
you play golf and if so how would
you describe your game and what
is your handicap?
Yes, I am a golfer and proud of
it. I like to think I've got
game. I hit the ball pretty well.
I'm taking some lessons to hone
my skills. I really feel like I'm
in a place that's improving. My
goal is to be in the 80's this
summer. My handicap is a work in
progress.
Why
do you like the game of
golf?
Golf Rocks! Golf lets me be in a
beautiful place, out in the sun,
playing with friends, drinking
cold drinks, challenging myself
mentally and physically. It's a
game that all levels of players
can enjoy. And it's a game that I
can forever strive to be better
at.
What
is your favorite aspect of the
game?
When you hit the ball in that
perfect spot...it feels so good,
so right.
Please
share a memorable, funny, or
interesting experience you
had on the job.
There's so many memories,
experiences, and people...I love
them all!! But, there was this
one time, in band camp.... No,
really - a couple of summers ago,
I was driving the cart in a HUGE
flash flood storm with thunder
and lightning everywhere. I was,
of course, at the furthest out
point from the club house when I
ran out of gas. I had to grab the
money, leave the cart and it's
contents, and make a mad dash for
the club house, and hope to not
be hit by lightning. When I
finally got there I was soaked!!
Of course, the rain stopped
shortly thereafter. Gotta love
Colorado!
What
is the most used phrase, saying,
or line you hear on the
course?
It depends on the situation,
there's different lines for
different times. "What kind of
beer do you have?" "Do you golf?"
"When do you get off work?" "Are
you going to be in the club house
later?" "Where have you been all
my life?" The ladies love to ask,
"Don't you just love your job?"
But my favorite questions is, "Do
you want to hit one off the tee
box with us?"
If
you could give one piece of
advice to a new comer in your
profession,
what would that be?
Be friendly, and be sure to know
some golf etiquette so you don't
drive up on golfers or run over
the balls in the rough. I just
want to thank all of my great
golfers and customers at
Kennedy!! You all are the best in
your own special ways!!
