Golf
Professional of the Month

Name: Brett Walton
"Wally"
How
long have you been a golf
professional? 9
years
Where
are you currently a golf
professional? Sheraton
Tamarron Resort, Durango
CO
How
long have you been there?
Since summer of 1992
What
attracted you to the profession
and how did you get into it?
A friend that was working at
Tamarron during college
introduced me to the golf
business. I knew that I loved
golf and it seemed like a great
way to tap into the profession
after I graduated college. In the
summer of 1992 I began my career
at Tamarron and haven't looked
back.
Who
were some of the influential
people involved with getting you
into this profession? My two
uncles Jim and Bud introduced me
to the game when I was about 14.
They used to pick me up at 5:00
a.m. to be the first off. We
would play 18 holes and during
the round they would always teach
me things as we were
playing.
What
is your favorite aspect of the
game? I truly enjoy the game
because it can be extremely
challenging and humbling at
times. There are not to many
games you can play that involve
having fun with good people in a
beautiful environment like a golf
course.
If
you could change anything about
golf what would it be? I
would like to see players of all
abilities receive a better
education on etiquette and the
rules of golf and we as
professionals should be promoting
this in our teachings.
If
you could give a piece of advice
to a high handicapper what would
it be? If you want to become
a better player work mostly on
your short game and
putting.
What
is in your bag?
Ball: Titleist Professional
90
Irons: Ping i3 Blades
Woods: Driver-Titleist 975D,
3-wood-mizuno
Putter: Scotty Cameron, Ping
Zing, Odyssey Blade, Tommy Armour
IMG (Ha Ha, whatever works that
week).
What
is your most gratifying
experience in the game? To
give a student a lesson and walk
away knowing they are completely
hooked on the game.
