Professional of the Month

Name:
Geoff Greig
Age:
43
How
long have you been a golf
professional? 12
years.
Where
are you currently a golf
professional? The Nike Golf
Learning Center at Park Hill Golf
Club - PGA Senior Director of
Instruction
How
long have you been here?
Since April 1st.
What
attracted you to the profession
and how did you get into it?
I really enjoy the mental
challenges of playing golf and
helping players of all levels
overcome those challenges. My
career in golf started very late
and quite by accident. My sister
and brother in law invited me to
join them for a casual round of
golf. I had never even hit balls
at a range before. By the end of
the round I was completely
hooked.
Who
were some of the influential
people involved with getting you
into this profession? My dad
is a big part of why I am a
teaching professional. He was a
highly respected college teacher
and coach in both soccer and
tennis, so helping people is
definitely in my
genes.
What
is your favorite aspect of the
game? In order to have fun
and play good golf you need to be
focused, disciplined and have a
handle on your emotions. These
attributes are a great foundation
for becoming a better person off
the course as well. I like the
lessons golf teaches us about
life.
If
you could change anything about
golf what would it be? I
would like to see players of all
levels have more fun with golf.
Because of the unique challenges
of golf we sometimes take the
game too seriously and forget to
enjoy ourselves.
If
you could give a piece of advice
to a high handicapper what would
it be? Improvement happens
much faster with perfect
practice. Find someone you trust
to keep an eye on your swing so
you do not frustrate yourself
practicing and reinforcing bad
habits. When you play, learn what
gives you the most pleasure in
golf and focus on it.
What
is in your bag?
Ball: Nike (surprise,
surprise!)
Irons: Titleist 962's
Woods: driver-Titleist, 3 wood-
Adams
Putter: Ray Cook
What
is your most gratifying
experience in the game? The
look in a beginner student's eyes
the first time they find the
"sweet spot".
