Eagle Vail Golf Club... The Perfect Retreat
|
With over 300 days of sunshine and near perfect temperatures all season long, Eagle Vail Golf Club is the ideal vacation escape from the summer heat. At nearly 8000 feet elevation, Eagle Vail offers the “true mountain golf experience”. Former host to the Gerald Ford Invitational Golf tournament, it has challenged Tour Professionals and entertained celebrities.
While being treated to the most magnificent scenery, golfers are challenged by multiple elevation changes while negotiating The Eagle River and Stone Creek during their round at Eagle Vail. At only 6600 yards, beginners need not fear, but long hitters better beware. The premium here is on shot placement and short game. Try to overpower Eagle Vail and you may be in for a long day.
The front nine, situated down in the valley, is a great warm up for the mountain holes that wait on the back nine. The 1st tee starts with an elevated tee to a great par 5, and is one of a few holes that let you swing away, hopefully starting with a birdie at the reachable 1st hole. On holes 3 through 6, golfers will hit across the Eagle River twice on these four beautiful, yet short and rewarding holes. The greens are the challenge here as they all break severely toward the river. As you make the trek down valley, you begin the elevated holes at numbers 9 and 10. Hole 9 is the number 1 handicap hole with a very tricky tee shot. If you get one in the fairway here, the rest of the hole will seem much more tame.
Your next tee shot on 10 may be the most memorable swing of the day. There is nothing more exhilarating than standing over 200 feet above your target, knowing that the ball will sail up to 15% farther than it will at sea level, and watching your shot hang in the air like never before. At 197 yards, this par 3 gives you a bird’s eye view of the valley and good chance for a par.
On your way back up the valley toward the clubhouse, the best is yet to come. The finishing holes sit in an area we call the “draw.” Secluded from everything, you’ll feel the magic that comes with being in the serenity of the Rocky Mountains. Don’t get too distracted though, as Stone Creek is awaiting your errant shots. Number 18 will be a great finish to a fantastic day. With one of the more elevated tees to another reachable par 5, this is your opportunity to hit a great drive and finish with a birdie. With 5 par fives, two of which have elevated tees, you will get a chance to hit the longest drives of your game, and birdies and eagles can certainly land here! Only minutes to Vail and Beaver Creek, Eagle Vail is the course that will leave you breathless, but with stories to tell, and memories that will bring you back time and again.
